There's the Washington Renaissance Fantasy Faire this weekend (http://www.washingtonrenfaire.com/ for more info). I'll be there on Saturday in full SG offworld gear.

Are you bringing your weapons too? Cara and I might be able to make this on Saturday.

Mission Report:

SG 12 gated to this world and within a few meters we found a renaissance era culture. While most of the people we encountered were friendly and welcomed us, there were a few that were hostile.

Combat training arena

Some kind of combat arena.

friendly villagers who were identified as Winter, Fall, & Spring.

Big THANKS to Lt. Shifty (Brent) for putting together this Away Mission

Hello guys, That would of been really fun. Too far for me to gate to and I had previous engagements.

Keep SG-12 active.

great pics! I'm surprised that some of you were greeted with hostility at the festival

but I noticed something - they allowed you to bring airsoft to your RenFaire?

my team has been going to the Colorado Renaissance Festival for several years now, but never allowed to carry airsoft weapons.

All knives had to be worn sheathed (and peacebonded on top of that) -

but we never were met with hostility - if anything, we get mistaken for real military and get thanked or saluted as we walk by....every now and then, someone would recognize us as Stargate and would stop and talk to us...

I guess the airsoft allowed/no airsoft rule mainly depends on the specific ren fair. I know that the ones down near where I live(Southern Mississippi), did not have any complaints or anything during the time a friend and I went to it in full Offworld gear. We were even mistaken for the security a few times.

Keep an eye out for us. We were invited to one in BC next year. We met one of the organizers who also works with the studio's prop department. As soon as they have an official date we'll post it.

Pix are great y'all! Pano has done this the last two times we've gone to our local ren faire here in MA, and another group of buddies of ours came up w/ the idea separately before we actually knew them (but Pano still takes credit for starting it, lol!) Most people liked it, but some were snots about the air softs etc. It was fun overall!

What somebody needs to do is create a System Lord costume and bring along a couple of Jaffa for escort and go around the faire saying, "Bow before you god!" everywhere you go. It would be fun to see how Stargate fans in ren garb at the faire would react and whether they would play along.

Uhh I'm one of them that you met at the renn fair (the one that was working on building a boffer version of a staff weapon) I was working security there and when I heard over the radio that an sg team gated into our faire I had to hunt them down maybe by next year I will have both a jaffa coustume and a sgc uni done.

the Staff is in prototype stage I got all the pvc and what not ready to put it all together.

I'm going to have to see if something like this ever happens in North Carolina. If I could get my girlfriend to come along, I'd have half an SG team! biggrin.gif

funny you should mention system lords - my team brought Anubis to the Colorado Renaissance Festival this year (but no jaffa)

unfortunately, it was so hot to wear the costume that my team member, Sean, could only wear it briefly - enough time to pose in front of the festival entrance - but then he had to change out of it...

here's Sean in his SG uniform at a weapons booth:

oh, we have stormtroopers coming to the Colorado Renaissance Festival - I just don't know how they can stand the heat in their armor though (the Colorado Renaissance Festival is held during the summer, and it can get up to 90 plus degrees out)

was reminded when I saw the earlier posted photo of funny hats, that my team mate Sean tried on a viking hat:

yeah, I can see the resemblance....don't know what Tom McBeath (the actor who played maybourne on the series) is doing...

but the guy who plays Henry VIII at the Colorado Renaissance Festival has presided over the festivities for years (along with a woman who plays Catherine Parr, Henry VIII's sixth wife)
