Yes it was a lot of fun!!! Gary Jones & David Nykl were great, had a nice chat with David. Dean Haglund was great too, and we met Jewel Staite. Maybe next year we could get a group of SG-20 to go! This was my 1st year going, wanted to go last year because Rachel Luttrell was there but couldn't make it.

Good to hear from you again. I know Zippy tried to organize a mission but I never heard back from him at all after the initial discussion. Personally I don't care for this con. Unless your an autograph hound there is really not much to do. Plus the pricing is outragous, an extra fee to see the guest talk. I know a few folks from "another group" went this weekend & hated it. Stood in line to reg for an hour. Truthfully I don't even think NE has enough sci-fi cons to even support our team at this point.

I agree that we don't have enough cons in New England. Back when I was 15 or 16, I went to a con in Boston called Infinite Visions... I remember having a great time but obviously at this point couldn't comment on whether it was really *good* or not, but that con doesn't exist anymore :-/ Creation won't be doing another con in Boston I'm sure, so that leaves UFC, errrrm what else do I know about, Anime Boston (not really SF related probably, never been) and some other small-ish anime/art/literature/gaming cons, have to do some more research on cons in the area, I don't think there are too many :-/

I personally had fun at UFC, there were people I wanted to meet there (Gary Jones, David Nykl, Jewel Staite but couldn't make it for Grace Park on Sunday, stupid work!). The ticket was a little expensive ($39 at the door), unless you wanted to pay $15 for access to nothing except the vendor rooms and autograph room, then the autographs cost from each guest. I liked that there were tons more vendors there than at the SG Creation cons. However, for the big main featured guest (Shatner) it cost something like $75 to even get into his talk GA, let alone an autograph or a good seat for the talk. None of the rest of the guests doing talks were people I wanted to see, like Linda Blair and Peter Tork.

::sigh:: wish we could start our own con and get tons of interesting people to do good talks and stuff! Someone should to start a SF media/television/film convention in this area, because all we have to choose from besides UFC seems to be books and anime, which I have no problem with, but isn't as fun to me as media-related or even fantasy-related stuff. Travelling to NY or NJ or MD just isn't possible for some people; I was lucky to even make it to Jersey for the Creation con this year, and ShoreLeave unfortunately couldn't happen as planned

And Ryan, it will be the greatest day of my life to make it to a con in Vancouver someday, but that will probably not happen until I move out that way, which is not happening for a good few years

Wow your scaring me again Liz. I was working security at 2 of the last 3 Infinate Visions Cons in Boston. Was it the one with all the Star Wras actors, Armen Shimmerman or the Buffy guys? Denise Crosby shoot footage for the original Trekkies there. The baby in a stroller with a ST uniform on was a friend of mines son. I have an interesting anicdote about that con but I can't post it publicly.

It was the one with guys from Buffy actually! My friend who came along was obsessed with Buffy and very excited to meet them, and I was obsessed with the X-Files (sigh.. the good ol' days!) and was excited to meet Veronica Cartwright. We had a blast lol! What happened to that con anyway?

That was when I first wore my EP1 Jedi costume. I got to talk with some of the Lost in Space & B5 cast.
Thankfully this con self destructed.
I say this becaue the promoter was highly dishonest. He was evetually convicted of Forgery on Autographs sold to fan & I think some financial infractions of one sort or another.

The only reason I wanted to go was to meet other members of SG-20.

I went, but I was greatly disapointed by where they stuck the fanclub tables.
Small room off the main hallway, tables going completely around the room = very cramped feeling.
I am always in favor of setting up a table and having it as a meeting place, but I really think we would have clogged the doorway if we all attended.

United Fan Con is the same weekend as the Creation con in NJ this year!! We don't know what to do yet, but I'm thinking Creation, what is everyone else planning (if anything)?

We are leaving for New Orleans for good around 17th of Nov, but we might squeeze in NJ if we can, if not we could maybe do Fan Con instead...?

Torri Higginson is going to do UFC this year! I'm so torn now, we were almost 100% sure on doing the Creation con this weekend, but Springfield is so much closer, and Torri will be there! Gah, what to do!!! :'(

Well I was hoping she might show up for NJ, guess she wont! LOL That is tough one! Its also the last year for NJ! We mayb have to re-think that weekend huh?

Yeah, now I'm not sure, Springfield would be cheaper and closer and all, and maybe we could do some promoting/recruiting for SFH at this con. I don't know if they do fan tables, but that might be something we could consider too. An SG-20 get-together might be in the cards if anyone decides on UFC. I gotta talk to Pano and see what he wants to do, we got some thinkin to do!

Creation won't let us run a fan club table at their events, but lets find out about United Fan Con! If we get several people going to it, I'll send up the gate backdrop if you want!

It's sad Creation won't allow fan tables...we has a great fan table at Creation in NJ in 2005. Oh well, their loss.

I'm up for either, the only reason I even wanted to go to Creation was to see some of the great people I've met there. as that's normally the only con they go to.

Count myself and Mojo in of course! We've pretty much decided to do this instead of NJ.

Hi folks - doing somewhat of a roll call to see who might be able to attend UFC (www.unitedfancon.com) this Novembver in Springfield, MA. I know we're few in numbers here in SG-20, and some of us don't come onto the boards much, but I would really like to do a fan table at this con if at all possible. I posted a thread last year about ths con after I went and got some feedback about it not being interesting and being run poorly and such, none of which I noticed last year simply because I had a great time wandering around in costume w/ my friends. Regardless of how it's run or what the programming is, my main reason for wanting to do a fan table is to do some recruiting for SG-20 and SFH in general. We only have 9 team members, two of whom we're losing in November, and a lot of us don't post much. I would love to see this team become more active, however we really need more (active) members for that to happen! I think we could do some good promoting of SFH at this convention, partially because United Fan Con is one of the only SF cons in the New England area that focuses on media - we have a number of other cons that are mainly literature and such. I'd love to connect with some other fans and some other costumers in this area. One issue with this however is that we would need some "stuff" to make the fan table worth coming over to! We'd need some suggestions and possibly loans of some things we could have at our table that would draw people over - Dan has already offered us the vinyl stargate backdrop if we do a table.

Our first priority is getting a count of how many of us might be going to this - I know that Mojo and myself have now decided on this con instead of the Creation con in NJ because it will be cheaper and it's closer, plus we're having friends come with us, plus I'd really like to do some promoting for SFH. I might send a few of you PM's to see if you'd be interested in coming so we could at least all meet up. But, shoot any ideas you have my way! I think this could be fun!

Liz, let me know if you need any help with stuff for the table and a banner. Do you know if you are going to run a general SciFiHero.Net table, or a StargateHero.Net table? or both a StargateHero.Net and a GalacticaHero.Net table(s)?

I was thinking either a general SciFiHero table or a Stargatehero table - we (well, myself at least lol) would like to get some more members for SG-20 in particular so probably a Stargatehero table might be best. I feel like we should wait until we see if other members are coming before we decide 100% on the table, my reason being that if it's only two or three of us, one of us would have to be at the table the whole time and we couldn't switch off very much. Do cons sometimes let you run a table for maybe half the day? This could be an option if Mojo and myself (and our one friend who may join) are the only ones doing it. Stitch & Hothgirl I don't think have made a decision yet, and I don't know if anyone else on our team has plans to attend this con. As soon as I have a better idea about who might come I'll let you know, and thanks for the offer!

Alright all, here's the deal on the fan table: we have to have at least 25% of our active members attending to get the $10 rate for the fan table. The way it works according to their website http://www.unitedfancon.com/modules.php?na...page&pid=23 is that our 25% attending members must pre-register and mention the club they're part of in the comment section when they place the order for the ticket. This means that even if only 3 or 4 of those of us attending pre-order our tickets and mention that we're with ScifiHero, we should be able to get the $10 rate for the fan table. I emailed the chairlady of the con and asked her what the deadline for reserving a table was but she hasn't emailed me back yet. We have 9 people on our official team roster, and it seems that at least 6 of us are going to be there, so we definitely have our 25%.

We will need some things for the table, so if anyone has props or some items they think might be interesting and releated to SFH, please let me know and we'll come up with a list. I don't have much myself, but I'll see what I can get. PM me if you have anything we could use, and try to pre-order those tickets! We officially have our fan table reserved for United Fan Con! Now we have to work on getting some props and other interesting bits to put on the table I personally don't have much in the way of props.. I will have business cards and some photos from Dragoncon of SFH members, I know Stitch and Hothgirl have a couple of things we can display, besides that I'm looking for volunteers! Anyone attending who has some props or anything else they'd want to lend us let me know so I can come up with a list of what we'll have and who owns what. I believe we're going to make it a scifihero table, not stargatehero specifically, so anything BSG, Firefly, or anything else would be great. So anyone who'd like to display something let me know. I'm so happy we're getting our group together for this, it should be great

Mojo just came up with a great idea - I mentioned that we could maybe bring some extra costumes to display at our table, and he mentioned that maybe we can borrow one or two mannequins from work to hang them on. We both work at a clothing company, him in the warehouse and myself in the call center, and both of us have plenty of access to mannequins. We're going to check Monday if we'd be able to borrow a few for the weekend of the con, and we could display costumes on them - I think it's a great idea! I will let everyone know if we're able to do this, and if we are, everyone bring your extra costumes and we'll hang them up!

If you can find me a laptop with a DVD drive, I have all sorts of goodies to Display
and can provide an set of speakers and a monitor to use with it.
I plan on being there, especially if Stitch and Hothgirl are visiting.

That's great!!! I was going to bring my laptop (primarily for the Atlantis sticker on it lol) and we could use that for anything you have to display, it will have to be plugged in though because the battery is crap. Pano has procured 3 or 4 mannequins from work, so we'll have those to display costumes on. It will be great to see you there! Dan suggested we (the team) try to get together for dinner Saturday night, I think we should do that too. Even if we just hit a food court somewhere together, lol.

We should be OK - we've got at least 4 out of 9 who are listing the club name on the ticket order, so that is enough percentage-wise. Stitch already confirmed everything with the con lady and I've mailed off the check, so we are getting it for $10 and it should be all set. I don't think she asked for names?
