When Tillie sends out an e-mail to sg-14 it looks like there are a ton of memebers. I personally have not met many of you. Maybe we should introduce ourselves or just talk a little here. What do you think?

That would be a good start. I've been reading the boards for sometime now, but just signed up a short time ago. Since I just joined at the request of Tillie, I don't know any of you.
BlueFrog
Well Who maybe we should start. I have been with sg-14 for about 1 1/2 years now. Not as active as I would like as I have a toddler who keeps me very busy.

I am totally addicted to Stargate. But started my love of scifi with Star Trek and still love that.

I have two costumes for stargate and I am working, very slowly on an Ori thing. Also making a flight suit costume for the above mentioned toddler.

What about all of you out there?
Who
I have worn a military uniform on and off since the late 60's I started as a cadet in the Civil Air Patrol and from there joined the U.S. Army. I've worn uniforms from the Army, Air Force, Navy, U.N. Armed Forces, and even some foreign military uniforms. The sad part is I didn't keep any of them as I never thought they would be of use. Silly me. I do think I kept my boots. They are older than many people on this board.

By-the-way, I am now retired from military service.

I've been encouraging team members to register on this site, and maybe give a bit of history about their involvement with the team when they post on the "roll call" thread, but so far, not that many have responded.

Maybe it's time to purge some names from the team roster, since the e-mail list isn't really reflective of the team's true size. On paper, there are more than 40 members, but in reality, there are probably only a dozen active memberse at any given time.

In the past four years, once active team members have disappeared either from team activities or from the boards, while others have taken their place. Some members have come once or twice to an event, or posted regularly for a while, then disappear completely.

In the meantime, a bit of history of how I got involved in costuming.

My first foray into costuming was through a middle school project involving the Renaissance Faire, where I began to do research on period costuming. I then got inspired by Star Trek (TOS) to do fan costuming but couldn't really do very much since I had neither the skills to make my own costume or means to buy costumes, so I stopped.

Four years ago, I started watching Stargate and realized that I could probably replicate the costumes on the show and started going online to find out more on where I could buy or obtain parts for the uniforms.

That's when I found SG-C, and realized that there was a whole community of costumers out there, which led to my starting SG-14.

Since then, I've become interested in what I guess I would call sci fi /fantasy costuming. Stargate is probably one of the easier shows in the genre to do costuming. But I also would like to do costumes from Battlestar Galactica, Andromeda, Firefly and maybe even Farscape.

But for now, I am concentrating on getting all the costumes from Stargate and Atlantis done before I really start expanding into other shows.

Since I've been dragged into SG-14, kicking and screaming and all there good stuff like that there, where do I get a SG-14 four inch shoulder patch?

And Tillie, since you are still looking for items, let's get together and see what we can come up with. I too am in need of some items.
BlueFrog
So Tillie do you have any idea how many active members we do have? I guess in my new role I will need that info and costume info stuff.
Reaper.
biggrin.gif I too have been a member of Sg-14 for about a year and half. I have been into sci-fi and horror movies since I can remember. I used to wait up till midnight as a kid and watch "Shock Theater" on Friday nights. But ever since Star Wars came out I was truly hooked! I just purchased a Black Ops Stormtrooper armor. I have been collecting sci-fi items for many years now,I have an open Zat and a closed Zat plus a Lightspeed Jaffa staff weapon from Stargate. I am on the look out for a T.E.R. also but there isn't many out there right now. I hope to meet more members also and with this new and "friendlier" I hope more members will speak up.
BlueFrog
Good to meet you Grimreaper!
Who
I think I was hooked when I saw "Plan Nine From Outer Space" and "A Boy And His Dog." Two of the best classic movies of all time.
BlueFrog
The reruns of Star Trek I used to watch when I came home from school were what got me hooked. I remember how excited when my mom took me the the first Star Trek movie and when I was waiting in line for the first Star Wars.
Who
Star Trek reruns, eh. Well, I saw them on their first run. I also managed to watch the first four Star Wars movies on opening day. Damn I'm old. I'll be dead soon. lol

Edit:

Another thought. Maybe we can start a chat. We could use IRC or MSN or any chat service for that matter. I'd suggest we set up an IRC channel somewhere and use it though.
BlueFrog
Wow! You must be old!! Ha-ha!. The chat idea is a good one. I have downloaded the MSN messanger so I can chat during the next scifihero chat. Although it seems very quiet here in sg-14 country maybe we are the only ones left.....
Who
On MSN, I'm gary3865@hotmail.com
BlueFrog
I am spaiged@hotmail.com on msn, I think... I didn't really understand what I was doing when I signed up.

We have almost two dozen people, if I count correctly, although this includes folks who don't post

In the Denver area, there's

me (foxspirit)
Jerry (gambit)
Michelle (athenamorrigan)
you (bluefrog)
Ed (Aslan303)
Krys (tam)
Drew (wyldweaselman)
Doug (dayrknight)
Dave (gambleon)
Frank (fleitz)
Ana (ripley)
Kim S (destifaith) - although she disappeared off the face of the earth since Starfest this year
Kathy (don't think she's ever registered to post)
Robert (LordAnubis - haven 't posted lately)
Leah (fenigdurak - ditto above)

other members who we see at conventions but no longer active with the team (strangely enough, they were part of the original SG-14 team when I started it about four years ago)
Melody (nnaydolem)
Terry (Jedi_Pilot)
Claire (lck182) - only at Starfest

In the Colorado Springs area we have:

John (GrimReaper)
Mike V (Muttley)
Christian (vicar - although he's not been posting lately)
Mike B (Bruno - ditto with the posting - and he didn't show up at MileHiCon this year)
Kevin (COS_Vader - stopped posting last year but still in the loop with the team)
Ernie (raptor - he was at Starfest and at the last CO Springs meeting but he's not posted)

In Montana
Karl (WO_Karl_Kratt) - although he's not posted lately either

Ran into Erin at MileHiCon and Erik at Starfest (neither registered to post on SG-C) this year, and Kim F (kimisan) was at the Body Worlds 2 exhibit - also saw Dakota (dakotasummerhawk) at Opus and MileHiCon this year - Dakota also lost his internet access last year, so he can't post anymore

everyone else had either stopped coming to events or stopped posting or both

I've also deleted a few names from the team roster already because they actually blocked my e-mails to them or had changed their e-mails and didn't bother to tell me what their new one was: that included Stacy (Sithslayer), Zac (Imperial_Birrer) and Sarah (queen_isis)

on the other hand, we supposedly picked up about five new members lately, but I think only two have posted : Gary (WHO) and Will (TK0043)

I finally got a TER last month - I think there is still one out there on eBay but it's going for almost $400!
