Tapping gates to Atlantis for Season Four
Tuesday - November 21, 2006 | by Darren Sumner
"Samantha Carter" actress Amanda Tapping will appear in the fourth season of Stargate Atlantis in some capacity, she told fans this weekend at the AT2 event in England.
Tapping signed on for two additional years of Stargate SG-1 last year, anticipating an eleventh season of the show in 2007. SCI FI instead cancelled the series, but the studio plans to keep Tapping around to complete her current contract.
"I am contractually obligated to the franchise for a year. I knew at the beginning of Season Ten that it was a possibility that if SG-1 went down that I might be doing some Atlantis," Tapping told GateWorld in an interview. "They exercised that option, which is fine.
"I think that this is a potential for a bit of fun. More than Carter and McKay. I think that this is a potential for a lot of fun."
No details about the move are known yet, including how many episodes Tapping will appear in and whether she will have the status of a recurring guest star or a regular cast member. Rumors of cast changes are in the winds following the August cancellation of Stargate SG-1, but still not confirmed.
The actress also announced that she is producing and starring in a new science fiction project, currently seeking funding.
Stay tuned to GateWorld for a brand new interview with Amanda Tapping in the weeks to come! New episodes of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis return to SCI FI in March. Season Four of Atlantis is expected to go into production in February and premiere this summer.

Oh the mayhem that will ensue. lol
Not just the obvious Carter roundhouse kicking McKay, but Atlantis' collective IQ'll jump significantly.

I am actually opposed to the idea (excluding the fact that there is a contract). I hope that she works in some fashion as a temporary storyline. I would prefer not to have a cast member of SG-1 join Atlantis for the pure and simple fact that Atlantis has done amazingly well on its own and it would seem as an insult and affront to those who are already the stars of the show. I just don't think the show would benefit from a permanent placement.
That being said I understand again that she is under contract and that she will be on the show for 1 season...I just hope that she plays some side role in things so she does not get in the way of the regular cast.

I think Daniel would make for a more interesting addition to Atlantis, but I'll happily take Sam.

I agree that Daniel would be a better fit for the Atlantis team. But from what I understand, Carter appearing will be more of Side story, and will only appear in a few episodes. So dont worry too much samuels...
I still havent seen anything about any of the other SG-1 cast showing up on Atlantis...although it would be an interesting story arc... for a season finale... if they would do the story arc correctly.

At the Burbank con, Michael Shanks didn't know whether he would be doing any appearances in Atlantis next season - all he knew was that he was committed to two Stargate movies...
I would think of all the SG-1 members, Daniel Jackson would be the most logical one to go to Atlantis...

Same here. I don't consider the show worth watching otherwise.
But the possibility of Sam/McKay banter is worth an hour of my time.

Daniel on Atlantis would obviously add an archeological side to the show, which, according to me, could make the show more and more interesting... btw his absence during the episode "the return" is for me unacceptable... HS OFF!

The thing is, Daniel was always meant to go to Atlantis, so it'll be more of a surprise if he doesn't and someone else (i.e. Carter) does

Also, it will depend on the actors' various contracts - if Amanda's lasts longer the Michael's, the studio has to find something for her to do, whereas they're not obligated to do the same with Michael.
Still, there's always chance for Daniel to get to Atlantis - you never know these days

With all the times that Daniel missed going to Atlantis, and being the foremost authority among the Tau'ri of the Ancients it would fit a lot better for him to be on Atlantis in some capacity. Sam getting to play when he doesn't would be a slap in the face to all he's contributed to the project. Yeah, Sam's done a lot for the SGC, but they wouldn't be in Atlantis if Daniel hadn't figured out the address, or gotten the Earth gate working in the first place way back when.
Maybe it's the Daniel fan in me :-p
