I decided to go ahead and start expanding the topics here to open more discussions while we await the return of leadership. List any conventions you might be going to or meetings maybe we can coordinate a few things at some of them with the rest of the membership.

Well, all I can say right now is only CON plans I have are DC in '07 and Omega in '08. Other than that, Spectre and I had been discussing a Rein Fair attack somewhere local, but that was just a toss up for now.

Plus I had actually discussed doing that with a friend who was not in SciFi Hero.

Constellation isn't that bad, about 5-6 hr drive, but with everything we are doing in Sept, we won't be alive much in Oct this year.

But, out of curiosity, how much are the tix to Constellation?
Lazurous
20 or 25 I will check, never too much though. They have been around a good long time and it is always a fairly nice con, nothing too big, a relaxacon really.
Adonis
My children... I have never left you...

The official convention/meetup for SG-13 is Megacon. Check out www.megaconvention.com for details.

Not to mention I know their is a plan to have a get together and maybe table at the October Vulkon. While it might be a long distance for folks to go, do realize as big an area this team covers their will be few conventions everyone can go to. That is unless their is some driving involved. MegaCon is one of the biggest conventions in te SouthEast. So, would be a good place to kick off SG-13's '07 event season.

How very close to our name, didn't even know there was a convention by that name.
Adonis
Oh yeah, it's huge. It's been going on for... well shoot. I don't know it doesn't say on their site. At least 10 years that I've been attending. So probably double that.

My only issue with MegaCON being the rally pt for SG-13 is the travel time to get there.

Dragon and Omega are both under 4 hrs from me. Orlando is about 8 hrs from me. And with my schedules, it is hard to pull that kind of travel off.
Adonis
Completely understandable Chris. I know that this year and last D*C is about 5 hours from me and I always wind up feeling sick the whole time because of the travel.

How about a nice compromise?

Megacon '07 is the official SG-13 meetup for Florida, for anyone (from any team, as it nears I will post so other people who love to travel to cons can attend)

And the Alambama members can find a good con for '07 for a SG-13 meetup there?

Dragon*con will continue to be a horrible attempt at trying to find people and can be a whole Sg group meetup, official for those attending, etc.

How does that sound?

Are there any good cons coming up in AL?
vader7071
Well the only ones I know of are Constellation (Huntsville, farthest north of our entire team) and Omega in '08 in Birmingham

That is the problem with having two states for the region. It is going to be difficult to find a place where no one has to drive less than 4 hours to meet. I agree with Adonis' plan for a Florida and Alabama meetup. Then we use DragonCon as an informal or formal joint meetup. Still would be nice if people can atleast try to make it to the meetups not in their state.

I see no problem with that. We may want to review the detachment ideas, leave Brianna's squad as it is, and create an AL detachment and a FL detachment. That would allow us a multi-state SG-team to meet and function as a full team, and also allow those of us like me & LAZ and Adonis & Profiler to meet at places convienient for them.

Yepper was my plan exactly. And the good thing about the meetup at OmegaCon I will always have it covered for you:) Considering I am a insider as it were. I have a few more people interested in becoming a part but they see some of the same problems. They want to be able to get together with some of the membership as kind of a local detachment and meet regular without having to drive TOO awful far.
