Get plenty of reference pictures and drawings. Then you have to decide if you want it to look Anime-ish or realistic.

What is your skill set? Can you sew? Have you used tools to make a costume before? How is your eye for scale?

Two I think we need to hit. NGE and FMA.

NGE becuse the site will be based on it's mythology

FMA becuse it is a really really good anime.

thoughts?

Im no expert seamstress by anymeans but I am a former professional theatrical costumer. I like my costumes to fit more like clothing than costumes though. So yes I can sew, yes I can use alot of tools. Scale . . .well my depth perception leaves alot to be desired, but I can play with it.

with anime costumes they look better if they are more tailor fit anyway, so its good that you prefer them to fit.

i am thinking that i would like to do Bleach costuming for anime north, with is Torontos big Anime con. its really awesome, any anime fans that could come should. its in the late spring.

i will try to get the linkie ( i say that ALL the time, but i wrote it down this time so i will follow up)

Not to be nitpicky or anything but it's Saotome, there's an O after the A.

Anyway, has anyone ever thought about doing a Gatchaman (G-Force/Battle of the Planets) costume? That would be a pretty impressive costume to go to any anime con dressed in and it's something that I'd seriously consider if I can drop about 10 lbs. and tighten my abs up some. Of course, the really tricky part to the costume would be to do the helment, especially the "beak" portion since I don't know how to vacform and don't have access to any vacforming capability.

An alternative costume that I think could be done fairly easily would be a Spectre goon costume; you know, the guys that the G-Force team would always beat up. They're the ones with the green bellbottoms with the fanged masks with the red eyes. Except for the mask the costume would be fairly easy to make, mostly adding on to or modifying off the shelf clothes; it would also have the advantage of being fairly unique, you're not likely to see very many other people at a con dressed like that.

Ah yes bellbottom pants just the thing to remind me of when I was young and had to wear those polyester nightmares. But then again most older Anime has people wearing bellbottom pants. Honestly I would love to do something form one of the Ultraman Series, especially the first one from the International Science Team.
