I was going over the movie Spaceballs and noticed that the only parts on the Spaceball black armored troopers was the chest/back shoulder pieces and the helmet. All of the other black shiny parts were shiny vinyl or patent leather sewn directly to the body suit.

All Spaceballs have a belt buckle that looks like a 4" dia coin with a profile (of the President I assume) on it.

The Calico M100 carbine that was used as the primary Spaceball's guard rifle too.

And remember at D*Con this year, Operations: Swarts!

Cool smile.gif I ordered a pair to check them out. I'll post up a report on the quality and how long it took to get them.
Grey Starr
You could also use the pair of them to make a Death Star Interrogator droid... I have a tutorial bookmarked for that... wink.gif

Humm Death Star Interrogation Droid Tutorial? That would be good share smile.gif

So here are the beginning of a tutorial for making your own Spaceball Helmet;

OK, the lamp spheres showed up a few days ago, and I worked on one of them this weekend.

I marked the seam where they connected both halves of the sphere together and drew out the opening.

Parallel to the openning aready cut in the bottom of the sphere 1/2 way up to the point where the sphere curves , I drew the top of the face opening starting 3" from the center seam line in each direction,

Widing the opening by 1/2" to 1"

Then I used a drimel to cut the openning.

Then using a cheap bicycle helmet I picked up at Goodwill for $2.00

Remove the plastic helmet cover

2 AM. I really need to work on this stuff earlier in the day!

OK, next I'm going to remove the straps, and use expanding foam sealent to secure the bicycle helmet to the sphere, I also think I'm going to widen the bottom opening another 1/2" all around so it is easier to fit my big head!

OK, did some more work on the helmet tonight:

Removed the chin strap from the bike helmet

Then put it back inside the helmet and then grab my can of expanding foam sealent

I sprayed the foam through the holes in the bike helmet and around the sides

Remember the foam will expand so I used a can of bondo to hold the bike helmet down while the foam slowly expanded

Then once it dried about an hour later, I widened the bottom opening by another 1/2" around, removed or sanded down any of the expanding foam that expanded into the bike helmet that made it uncomfortable to wear.

Then I sanded the helmet starting with a coarse sanding block and then with a fine sanding block. This is to rough up the surface for the paint to stick better too, and smooth out the seam between the two halves of the sphere.

Another test fitting before painting

I'm happy about how it fits so now on to painting, I used satin white in Fusion paint by Krylon. The Fusion paint is made to stick to plastics.

Its going to several coats of paint to cover the helmet and then a glossy clear coat and I'm going to paint the inside of the helmet black.

That looks really cool! You also have a great face for wearing a spaceball helmet tongue.gif , round and comical looking lol. I better shut up now before I dig myself into a hole...

Seriously though it, looks fab. smile.gif

That completely rocks...WTG Dan!

I checked it this morning and the liner with all of that foam around it came loose from the inside of the helmet. Also the polyurethan plastic doesn't sand very well, so I'm hoping that after the paint fully dries I can sand that down to hide some of the impurfections. I might try a hot iron to smooth out the edges better too.

You know, I have the original Dark Helmut belt in my collection....

We have been looking for a large coin for the belt buckle, but if you have the real Sroob faced belt buckle that of course would be better wink.gif

Well, let's see: as I remeber I have the one with the boxes on the belt...I don't remember if it has a coin on it...
I'll have to dig it out.

PS. Your expression really makes the ball work.
Danger Kronk
Dan, I think the face opening is cut too high. I seem to remember the opening ending right at about eye level, not up on the forehead.

Since the liner is loose, I can change the angle of attack on the openning a lot.

Here is a picture of Dark Helmet that you can see his belt buckle:
