Photo album of some stuff I found on the web, nice costume work!

HothGirl
Ed Elric costume I did for a friend of mine last Halloween, she painted the cross on the back:

Looks good Hothgirl. She did place the symbol too low on the back, but the symbol itself is great. Once I get settled back at home for the weekend I will post my resources and known sites. Prepare for a lot of stuff!

Emuz -

Yeah, I know. Symbol might be a bit large too, so I had to adjust the slit accordingly.

It's all good, she was happy with it and that's what matters. smile.gif
Emuz
Her happiness is all that matters! wink.gif

Forgot to post this last Friday, but I uploaded several more FMA pics into Dan's PB account. smile.gif

Check the wolfpack boards. There's a guy there, Q-something that has the blue uniform almost done, he just needs to add the braids or something.

I've been having this insane desire to create full Al armor. Seeing the above pics shows me it's possible. What I have in mind is to buy the lightweight sheet steel that is used to make air conditioning ducts and then bend and roll and then weld my seams. I'm a fairly accomplished welder and can make some pretty welds, and ugly ones can be ground down and buffed.

I dunno if I'll ever actually start this project, but it's one of those fantasy projects I've been considering.

Here is the site where a lot of the pictures came from. $1200 bucks is quite a chunk of change. It appears they use lightweight aluminum. Your idea is very sound, if not very daunting! smile.gif

Hopefully this will provide some ideas to you and others, and if all else fails offer an easy way out wink.gif

I was thinking about doing some AutoMail arms for a FMA Military costume. I have to figure out a custom character for myself smile.gif

For AL, I would do it in vacformed Black ABS plastic. It would cost less and be light then metal in most cases. Metal, you would need a rolled edge otherwise you can cut yourself on the edge of the metal sheets.
Emuz
True. Not to mention there is a process that can be done to plastic to make it look just like real metal. Same stuff used on the rubber stunt sabers for SW:EpIII. smile.gif

Anyone doing the pins that are on the collar?

far as been said, they simply chromed them, which you can do...the advancement was chroming rubber. But really plastic has been being chromed for years wink.gif

One alternative though for a more used metal look is rub n' buff, along with aluminum powder, which is what they did for Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones.
Emuz
Cool idea Justin. Plastic is best for rigidity. Metal would be far too heavy.

I am aquiring three sets of the two pins for my uniform. I'll review them and post a link to where I got them if they turn out to be nice. I also know the guy who makes the State Alchy's watch to prop specs. (ie: proper backing, no FMA logo.) I want to contact him to see if he would be able to provide us a large scale sale.

Keep ya posted.

I would think that the biggest problem with Dean's idea is that the type of metal he's thinking of using might be a flimsy for the project. If it's light ducting metal it might ding a little too easily and anything heavier might just be too heavy. Still, a full metal suit would be pretty neat to see; the biggest advantage over plastic is that while you can make plastic look like metal there's no way to make plastic sound like metal.

Maes Hughes throwing knife i made for my costume of him, made from sheet styrene built up and sanded down, plus some apoxie sculpt. Then molded to make a few of em. I do sell casts if anyone is interested biggrin.gif

My master of the main bit of the collar badge, made from sheet styrene and a few hours of painstaking hand filing.

the sterling silver final cast (i made 3, still have 2 of em)

My Maes Hughes cosplay:

My hair isn't the right colour, this one one of my first cosplays, i didn't use the right type of hair dye... haha
