I recall someone on the ASAP boards actually started the Cyclone riding armor. They did get about half done as I recall. Now I'm going to have to look again...
Edit:
Okay, these images belong to Commodore Starska and/or reddeltawolf at the ASAP boards.
These are smaller images. The full size images may be seen by just copying the URL of the image, and remove the "-s" which I'm assuming is for "small." I'm also pasting the description of the items from the ASAP posting. If the owner(s) want it removed I'll do so.

Robotech cyclone armor, legs one up one down, chest & back, shields, one topside one bottom with arm guard.

The boots are 19in. long and a 6in. platform which are packed with styrofoam. The shoes are bolted on and are easy to walk in. If you look closely the circular parts go in and out to support the upper section when extended.

The chest plate and back are held together with four wellnuts, two above each sholder, and two plastic buckels.

The shields were designed to slide up the forearm guard incase I fell.

In the show the parts went together with a latch very similar to what is seen here. I used abs plastic to simulate them.

I started to paint the chest and back armor blue, but never finished.

Inside the lower leg there isn't much room with the springs.

Another closeup of the latch.

The traction on the bottom of the boot.

Leg with thigh.

Another view of the leg with the thigh.

Yes the boots are made out of sheet metal. They are 19.5 in. long and 6 in. tall, they have dividers inside both the toe and heal and packed with Styrofoam.
I made the bottom plate with the supports first, then wrapped the outside with one piece riveting them together in the arch area leaving the top of each piece open to pack the foam in the compartments.
In making the costume I tried to do the armor with as few pieces and rivets as possible, so making the complex shapes wasn't the easiest, all parts were made out of cardboard first bending them to the desired shape, only after all the parts were done and taped together did I start with the metal, I still ended up scrapping a few pieces. The only power tool used was a drill every thing else was done by hand even the brakes (bends), to save metal I had to do parallel cuts one for the piece and one to save the rest of the metal for other parts.
The rest of the body armor was done at one time, even the helmet, but kids and moving several times took its tole on the parts. I do plan on finishing the cyclone, hopefully soon.
Here's one from a cosplay forum in the Phillipines...
