This post is actually an attempt to gather information about common special teams most often joined by members of SG-9.

So, you're a new member to SG-9. As you get used to our people here, you may notice in the roster that there's a field describing Team Affiliations. Many of our members are also members of special interest groups within the SFH community. Some of these I know about, and I'm sure others can fill us in on what I don't yet know. So, here are some descriptions, and we'll edit this post as necessary until we get most everything covered.

SG-Delta: Middle Tennessee area fanfilm makers, actors, prop designers in support of the SG franchise. Find out more: SG-Delta Website

Atlantis Project: Non-Regional Team dedicated to the creation of costumes/props specifically from the SGA series. Membership is probationary until at least one SGA-specific uniform is created. Find out more: Atlantis Project - SFH Forum Direct Link

SG-69: Like to party at conventions? This non-regional team might be for you! Chances are, if there's shenanigans with SG costumers, SG-69 is not far from them. I'd imagine that this group is strictly for ages 21+, for obvious reasons. Find out more: SG-69 - SFH Forum Direct Link

Order of the Ori: Hallowed are the Ori! Non-regional team with a focus on costumes/props used by Ori and those that follow the path of Origin. Find out more:Order of the Ori - SFH Forum Direct Link

Tok'ra Resistance: We are NOT Goa'uld! This non-regional team is for interested in Tok'ra costuming/props. Find out more:Tok'ra Resistance - SFH Forum Direct Link

SG-Operations: The Home of SG-SOCOM: A group of SG/SGA fans focused on all canon-based costuming concepts, as well as their former main focus, Special Ops costuming. This group welcomes SG-9ers as affiliates in their near-monthly weekend shindigs, which occasionally include airsoft, paintball, and role-playing games. Currently, our SG-9 roster tracks memberships in these five special interest teams, and a few more, such as pilot squadrons. I apologize if I've left a team uncovered, but for now, these are the ones that I see occurring most often in roster update information -- want to get your team listed? PM me with a link to a main website or an SFH Forum for that team. We'll get all the bases covered, eventually.

If ANY member joins one of these groups, please send information to the Membership Office via PM to me. We'll post that information on your roster entry, so that every SG-9 member can network with special team members in our region!

**NOTE: Not all project teams are currently listed. Links are completed for those that I knew at the time of post.**

I would like to see a listing for SG-SOCOM, since we are beginning to solidify our relationship and will hopefully be participating in each others activities soon!

I second the SG-SOCOM motion. biggrin.gif

Added-ed! ed. LOL.

what? you left of sg-9's own F302 squadron.... the 901st SFS Flying Tigers... biggrin.gif
Dr. H.D. Jamisen
Well...I was going for those groups that aren't immediately in our own team forums. You know, the ones that people usually have to SEARCH for. If we feel the 901st needs a link, we can make it, no problem.

I knew that people not involved in those sub-teams listed would look at the roster, and wonder "SG-Delta? What's that?" and find no real answers in our little slice of SFH.

Just pop up a response if you really want that link--it's a piece of cake. I'm on my way to Berea for a few days, so I might not be online until Sunday night to get it done.

no worries biggrin.gif

just had to throw that little tidbit out there biggrin.gif

I'm confused.

I joined one group, just to find out I'm not part of it, but assigned to a sub-group of the group; and that at one piont the group, broke away from a parent group.

It was simplier when I was with the Empire (first war), either you were and Imperial, or you weren't; being a rebel was optional, and just made the termination order paperwork easier. happy.gif

Hey folks, I've usually tried to avoid posting in either SFH.net's or SGC.net's team/sqdn discussions, but I wanted to set the record straight. Last year SG-SOCOM officially broadened its scope and adopted the new identity in order to include more than just Special Ops themes. As such, SG-Operations: The Home Base of SG-SOCOM was adopted as our new identity. Though we've kept the SG-SOCOM name in the title, as we've wanted to maintain part of our past identity, we've gladly moved towards SG-Operations, as the new focus offers our members the more canon aspects of SG fandom, in addition to the older Special Ops aspects.

Also, the SG-2 team on our site, is not the same as the SG-2 team here under SFH.net. In either case, we welcome dual memberships between these two fan groups, as well as, any other groups out there. Many of our members also have accounts here and post from time to time. Not sure what SSgt Michael Donovich's thinks was going to "happen in response", but he's free to be a member of both groups without any issues at all. He can play where is has fun and hopefully will enjoy playing with both groups.

As Membership Officer, I'll speak on this...

...basically saying, no worries. We also feel that the member in question can serve in any way he chooses. His "honorary member" status with SG-9 has no bearing on his activities with SG-SOCOM, SOCOM SG-2, or SFH SG-2, as far as we're concerned (we like doing things with all those groups, too!). This was discussed with our TL about a month ago, when we were working our new roster. He met some of our guys at a con, and had a great time, and wanted to be considered part of our group. We welcome this wholeheartedly, which led to our creation of an "honorary" membership status.

My only concern was that one of this other teams would feel somehow feel slighted by our including him on our roster. So long as his regional team has no problems with his affiliation with us (and it seems so far there have been no objections), and he wants to be considered part of SG-9, then we're happy to offer him a "home away from home." I'd dare say that the same would apply to ANY SFH member in good standing who, having met our members, wanted the same privilege of being granted SG-9 Honorary status, so long as they didn't do something to our members that would be considered unsavory.

Honorary members, like ALL SFH members, to my knowledge, are welcome to participate in our activities. Period. We just save a special place for those who earn Honorary status.

We (well, I) do ask that anyone seeking SG-9 Honorary status seek out his/her official Regional Team and become affiliated with them, though. I consider it part of my job to let people know that regional teams exist, and point them in that direction. We're not in this to draw turf lines or start gang wars, but I know that, for the most part, new members to SFH are best served by their official regional teams, just because of geography, and the knowledge of more local cons/events that they might be interested in attending.

All in all, SG-9 is a relaxed, friendly group, willing to work with and welcome anyone in a spirit of camaraderie. We love partnering with the other regional/non-regional teams.

So yeah, it's all cool with us.

SG-Operations has no problems at all with any of our members having full or honorary memberships in any SFH teams or squadrons. The only concern that we've ever expressed was that any of our own Team/Sqdn CO/XOs would not try to hold a similar postion within SFH.net or SGC.net, as that could constitute a conflict of interests, or at the very least spread someone very thin trying to be a TL in two different groups. Obviously, if the entire Team/Sqdn held a dual membership then the issue was kinda moot, as they would really still only be the CO/XO of a single team, just that the team called two places "home."

Our group happily supports the friendship its had with all of SFH.net and continues to enjoy the mutual support that each group has shown for the other. We're all in a single fandom, regardless of the forum or group that a person chooses to primarily "play" with and call "home." If anyone has questions for me as the CO of SG-Operations or concerning our group in general, please feel free to contact me via PM, or in the SG-SOCOM section here within SFH. So, lets turn this topic back over to SG-9 and get on with the fun... :-) I know we're all looking forward to seeing SG-9 at ConCarolinas and ShoreLeave.
Donovich
It's all just a misunderstanding.

I forgot, that I wasn't sitting around typing to other GIs about the usual complants one has when in the service (its the allution of SGC uniforms and avatar ranks). I told my friends (cybergeeks) about what has been happening, and they gave me some good advice about being on forums.

So if no one has any objections; I'll just rejoin the ranks, and get back to having fun.
Riptide
Most definitely! All is good and I know we do have a few from our team, myself included, planning on tripping up to Shoreleave this year!

Kewl, it will be good to see you again and to meet others from SG-9 as well. I beleive that SFH's SG-2 will be attending as well. Between all the groups, we should have a strong SG fan presence at ShoreLeave.

In response to recent discussion, I've edited this thread's description of the group formerly known as SG-SOCOM to SG-Operations: The home of SG-SOCOM, as well as summarized the new information provided by DeryniLord. We thank him for the updated information -- we really just want to get this thread as accurate as we can for new members.
DeryniLord
Accuracy, well not really needed or as important as helping make sure that nothing stresses or harms relationships between these two groups. We've all worked too hard for that to happen and if anything the responses here just might serve a good lesson for any new members joining either group. In that its a single fandom, we all play well in the sandbox, regardless of where a person calls "home", if they choose one at all. If you're on our forums, you'll see much of the same discussion over there as well. People learn from asking questions, and no questions are out of bounds... unsure.gif rolleyes.gif jumpy.gif

So no harm done, lets get back to the party as Mama Duck might say... jumpy.gif mellow.gif biggrin.gif
