I am looking to see what people like and know about anime, and who likes it!

Give me a list of animes saw, divided in likes and dislikes. Bold your top 3 or list it in order if you choose. Than a paragraph of why you like it and how long you have been watching it.

Also anyone of Evangelion also mention that. wink.gif

My maddness has a function.

Go forth! Speak!

Love anime..............
1. Samauri Champloo...........love Jin..........and Mugen.....the rivialry, the friendship.........love Samauri anything, but there is a good tale here and I love the mix.

2. Hellsing.........is there a better vampire? He has ethics, the Van Helsing organization has ethics. There were moments I thought he had died and I was upset...........but Hellsing is way too cool to be off by just some wanna be vampire.

3. Inuyasha...........love the comradarie, the characters..........the love triangle.........the brothers fighting and fighting as one. A deep story, sometimes funny.

I love anime and these are favorites, but on any given day this list chances. I like Trinity Blood, Peacemaker, and Chrono Crusade, too...........and the list could go on. wink.gif

Good lord. This topic could be way too long in a short period of time. Are you qualifying it by ANY ever seen, or just favorites?

Likes...

Ghost in the Shell: SAC, Liked the original GITS Manga more than the animated film.

Appleseed (Anime & Manga equally)
Robotech, Mostly Macross and New Gen. I also loved
DYRL the film, and the Macross Zero series. Roy Fokker is STILL my favorite. *snif*

Patlabor. Loved ALL of them... Except the last film, which I HATED. I hated it MORE after I paid $30 to buy the DVD. What a waste of money that was. Grrr...

Most anything made by... Miyamoto? (Nausicaa, etc.)

Gunsmith Cats. Liked the anime, liked the Manga more.

Liked the STYLE of the Evangelion anime. Had a WTF moment after finishing the series/films, and decided I didn't like it after that. Although the porno was amusing. wink.gif

Liked Grey, both the film and the Manga. How old scool is THAT for you? laugh.gif

Too many more to remember... Losing my old brain cells you understand. wink.gif

I really love all types of animated sci-fi and fantasy stuff, but I don't usually try to categorize any of it. I'm not big on what is considered "anime", "manga", or just plain old animation/cartoon. It never made a difference to me as I have, most likely, enjoyed all of these throughout my life.

I do have to agree with Blackkat on Hellsing. I absolutely love those shows. I also really liked Vampire Hunter D, Cowboy Be-Bop, Ghost in the Machine, Fist of the North Star, and a whole slew of others that I can't remember (and sometimes never knew) the names of. As a Palladium Books nut, I have seen almost all of the Robotech stuff even though I'm not as keen on giant war machines as I am supernatural/super powered/heavily armed characters whoopin' on the bad guys.

So...I like this stuff a lot, but I'm not sure how much I actually "know" about any of it.
Fuzzymoose
Hmmm. I pretty much echo Rook, with a few exceptions:

Macross is excellent, but the Robotech Southern Cross saga is what got me into anime in the first place.
I love the Patlabor movies, but only saw the first 2. Maybe I had better stop there.
And even with the WTF ending of Evangelion, I still like it.

To Rook's list, add:

Bubblegum Crisis
Gall Force
Kimagure Orange Road (especially the movies)
Ranma 1/2
Dirty Pair
Armor Hunter Mellowlink
Fushigi Yuugi
Revolutionary Girl Utena (remember what I said about Evangelion's WTF ending?)
Galaxy Fraulein Yuna (My guilty pleasure. Even my wife won't watch it because it is too cutesy.)
Gunslinger Girl
Read or Die
Noir
Mobile Suit Gundam (Universal Century or Gundam Seed continuities. I never much liked Gundam Wing or G Gundam.)
And while not a particular series, the opening/closing animation sequences and music - for almost any series.

I can't get Bold to work, so let me list Fushigi Yuugi, Gundam Seed, and Gunslinger Girl as current favorites, though the top 3 changes by the day.

Well, you're entitled to your opinion... no matter how wrong you are. laugh.gif

Just kidding! Did you get into RIFTS? I thought that was a kick ass setting. If ever an RPG setting could be made into a film, RIFTS would have done it for me. And you could make a few not so heavy handed mentions about fachism and a police state... and have direct parallells to modern time. Kind of like "V for vendetta." smile.gif

Plus, giant robots, mutants and magic are okay on my book. See, now you did it, I'm going to have to dig out my REF Expeditionary manual now. smile.gif

Of the 3 sections of Robotech, Mosepada/New generation was my personal favorite.

I was introduced to anime with Star Blazers, learned more about it through Speed Racer and Ulysses 31 (21?) and a few others from those days, and became obsessed with Robotech. I never got into Voltron like many did, or Gatchaman(sp)/Battle of the Planets.

Transforming robots is one thing. Transforming robots that combine to form super-duper-mega-whatsis... not so hot. Especially after seeing "mighty moron power derangers." wink.gif Although the "Mighty Orbots" anime series actually amused me. smile.gif

Whoops, forgot to add "Trigun" to my list of recent favorites.
About the third Patlabor film... If you see it without expecting to see a lot (or any) of the Mobile Police forces, then it's an okay film. Very moody and police drama type. However, if all you want (like me) is more mobile police action... you'll be really disappointed.

Rent it if you can, buy it only if you must own everything Patlabor.

Yep. Been playing Rifts for as long as it's been out (just picked up the Rifts Ultimate edition to replace the second copy of the main book that I've pretty much worn out biggrin.gif ). You're not the only one who thinks it would make a great movie. Seem Jerry Brockhiemer (sp?) already has a version of Rifts in the works as a movie. No hard data on when it will get the go-ahead, but the guys at Paladium are stoked about it.

I've already started working on a suit of the new Dead Boy armor to wear at cons. It's going kinda slow as I don't have a manniquin to use for designing the pieces. Good news is I should have a great set of pics of the armor in the next day or so. Kevin at Paladium had one of his interns gather as many reference pics as they could find and mailed them to me yesterday. I'll keep everyone informed of how it goes.

Um...sorry for getting so far off topic here rolleyes.gif

other than Robotech, Akira, and Gotchiman i am pretty new into anime

i LOVE samurai champloo, its awesome. i also really like Bleach, and am about halfway through Air.

i love the feel of Champloo with the fact that they pay tribute to ancient art styles and its like you can feel the stroke of the brush.

i like bleach for the complex storylines and the backstories to all the different characters-- plus the imagery is FANTASIC for fan art.

i guess my addition to this convo is not very exciting-- what should i get next then boys? You seem to be in the KNOW!?

Well, I started out being exposed to Robotech, Voltron, Transformers, and a few others as a kid.

Then as I grew up, most of my shows weren't anime until the late 90's or so.

Then I started watching Dragon Ball, DBZ, and one other I forget the name of.

When I hit highschool though, my series of choice became Rurouni Kenshin, our high school anime club referred to my fellow Kenshin fans and I as "The Kenshin Crew", I've aslo seen some Fishugi yugi, Gundam X, Gundam Wing, Gundam SEED, SEED Destiny, Ranma 1/2, Trigun *Love and Peace!*, Yugioh! and Yugioh! GX *Get yer game on!*, One Piece, Zatch Bell, Naruto *Believe it!*, I used to watch Case Closed until it disappeared, and I watch InuYasha and Fullmetal Alchemist.

I'll elaborate more on why I like each show later.
Tigerlily
I got hooked on Anime early when my little brother and I picked up Naussica from the Cartoon section of the Pic-A-Flic . . .gosh in 1985? It was so good we looked for other things like it, we ended with with Wizards, The Last Unicorn, Heavy Metal.
Mostly I like Ranma, Tenchi, Anything Myazaki . . .Scrapped Princess, Dirty Pair, Ah! My Goddess.

As you can see I like the more silly fantasy stuff rather than the big guns macrossy type stuff. (Except stuff from my childhood like Voltron . .and what was the one similar to Voltron that everyone was dressed like a bird??)
We have recently been watching Wolf's Rain.

But, I do have a 9 year old in my house, so through him we get alot of Pokemon, Inuyasha, FullMetal Alchemist, YuGiOh etc . . .

What I like about anime is the scope. Not only is the genre extremely broad but they can make such epic pictures (Like Nausicaa) with out the limitations of human actors, make up and special effects. You just could not reproduce a world like in Howl's Moving Castle in real life.

I find the more you see of a Anime from the begining, the better it is to watch.
Enjoy a lot of it and I don't like to say anything bad because most of the time I see an episode in the middle and am always trying to figure it out until I see it from the start.

Childhood nostalgia:
Robotech - have them all on DVD. biggrin.gif
Voltron - Grew up with the Lions, but really want to see the vehicle episodes again.
G-Force - I really wanted to be part of the crew of that ship.

Gundam Wing/Seed/Etc - Giant robots are too cool. I need to see more of those episodes.
Evangelion - Emuz, "You have some NERV". Much like Robotech, hate the last episode blink.gif , everything else is fine. All 8 Volumes on DVD.

Bleach - just got into it when Cartoon Network had its holiday marathon on adult swim.
Ghost in the Shell - Awesome series, including SAC and 2nd Gig.

Naruto - "Believe it!" is the only thing I can't stand in the English translations.
I have been turned into a "Naru-tard" because I have seen the first 172 episodes with subtitles.
I have three movies, that I have yet to watch.

Inuyasha & Cowboy Be-Bop- fun to watch.

Full Metal Alchemist- Sucked me in. Al is my Favorite character.

Seen Samurai Champloo, but not much of it. Really like Gene, the Guy with Glasses. wink.gif

Just saw Spirited Away for the first time, cute movie.

Edit: Forgot about Eureka 7 . . .

Bring it on!
Emuz
I also just got into Bleach. I love the humor of it. Much like why I fell in love with FMA. Good mix of serious and comedy.

Emuz,
Found some new Anime that you and Kronk might beinterested in.

Ergo Proxy is a terrific Anime, with a "hot" Female lead and some very freaky happenings, but filled with very humorous moments depending on the episode. They have been showing episodes of it on Fuse TV. Domed Cities, Robot "autoraves" aka Entrouages (a virus that sets them off), and of course the mystery of the "Proxy".

Kronk,
Look for Area 88. It is all about Mercenary Jet pilots flying for a fictional Mid-east kingdom. The quality in detail of the aircraft is like watching the real deal. I showed it to my brother-in-law who is also a historical aircraft fan and he likes it too. The aircraft are older period craft, lots of A-4, F-4, F-8, a Draken or two, Mirage F-1s, Harrier and an American Pilot that flies a Tomcat without a RIO up against Mig-19, 21s and 23s.

I've seen a bit of Area 88 and found it quite enjoyable, it's always been on my list of animes to see but never saw it until I saw it on cable. As a bit of warning, the title is a bit old and the character designs are a bit dated, very late 70's early 80's Leiji Matsumoto (Star Blazers) like. But don't let that disuade you from checking it out as the writing is great.

Finally cashed in my reward points on my Credit Card and ordered the Robotech pornoculture, er, I mean PROTOculture edition all inclusive set. yay!

EAGERLY anticipating the release of the new Appleseed film which should be out soonish...

Also, does anyone know what the difference is between the Robotech Shadow Chronicles dvd that was released earlier, and the "deluxe edition" version that's supposed to be coming out for $30?

Thank you for the tips Zippy! I'll check it out when I get a chance!

I checked out Deathnote recently since Adult Swim started playing it. So far I am liking it a lot. I can see why it is quite popular. smile.gif
