The first pic is of the Mars security uniform and the second is of the vest worn by Babylon 5 security forces in Seasons 3.5 - 5. BTW, that vest is worn over a set of green coveralls that have a yellow Bab 5 patch on the left shoulder.

You brought up some great memories, Gato!

I still remember how much Captain Matthew Gideon hated the red-trimmed gray uniform because he said it made him look like a bell hop (in "Appearances and Other Deceits").
BTW, love the kitten avatar!

A few years ago, I adapted a Simplicity costume pattern to make a Ranger One costume. I chose fabrics that were closest to those described in Kathryn Drennan's novel "To Dream in the City of Sorrows" (considered fully canonical by JMS). I took that description, used a still from "War Without End, Part 1" (Season 3), looked at the episodes "Learning Curve" & "Sleeping in Light" (both Season 5) and the TV movie "In the Beginning," and came up with a very good approximation.
I've been complemented a few times while wearing it at some past cons.
The strange part is I've never fully seen "War Without End, Part 1 & 2."

This is an old thread.... sorry if this qualifies as a necro post.
I'm really interested in the Babylon 5 EarthForce "blues".
I've done a bunch of googling, but I thought I should ask if anyone 'round these parts has any good reference info?

I still have a blue Earthforce jacket lying around here somewhere.
Ordered it a few years back but never got to wear it, as it turned out it was too small for me.
Would you like me to dig it up?

one of my former team mates had an Earth Force costume from Babylon 5 but I don't think you can pick out all the details:

you probably saw these photos but thought I would post them up anyway:

one thing to note: the collar closes differently for men and women - right over left for men's and left over right for women's
you can't see it from the photos here, but the pants have what appears to be slit side pockets....
you can find most of the B5 pins and patches on eBay, but I have yet to see the distinctive metal buckles for the Earth Force belt or the collar tabs....
and don't forget the comm badge, worn mostly on the back of the right hand by the men, and on the back of the left hand by the women - there are a few exceptions: Sinclair, Dr. Franklin and Zack all wore theirs on the left hand....

figured you had some
in looking at the two Earth Force blues that you have, I also realized there were some slight tweaks in the Earth Force uniforms between season one (Sinclair) and season two (Sheridan) - the second season had a bit more detail - red trim to the collar, epaulets, front leather panel, as well as the addition of the more elaborate "belt" - they also moved the cuff trim up the sleeve a bit (and had that trimmed in red as well)....
I can't tell from the photo you have of Sinclair's uniform but what is the detailing on the waist of the jacket? It looks like there was some sort of trim used - the belt with the Earth Force insignia "buckle" didn't make its appearance until second season...

Actually the basic officer jacket is the same from S1-S3. In S2 the piping was changed from black to red and the trim on the cuffs was moved up the sleeve a bit. The EF waist emblem was used on both versions, it's just missing from my photo. There was also a Jr officers jacket which did not have the leather panel down the front. It was piped in black and was used from S1 to S3 until the introduction of th so-called "Army of Light" uniforms.

Regarding the wearing of the link, there was a good reason Sheridan wore his on the right hand... seems Bruce Boxleitner's left handed. Remember that, as Sheridan, he drew his PPG from the left side. I've also seen some of Bruce's Western TV movies and his holsters were all left-handed draws.

Jerry Doyle (Garibaldi) did the same. It would be difficult to speak into your link if it was on the back of your gun hand.

Great info so far. Thank you!
I'm curious about the metal bits of the uniform: the belt area, the shoulder rank pins, the neck triangle.
I wonder if these parts were actually metal, or painted resin? Sizes? What does the belt area look like up close?

The metal "bling" is cut brass. The waist emblem is cast metal with a brass finish. The EA chest insignia and stat bar are metal.

Cut brass for the metal bits? Cool.
I'm curious how difficult it would be to have a run of all the brass bits manufactured. Of course more info would be needed: dimensions, curve, etc.
Found this on ASAP:
QUOTE

The top buckle was worn on the bottom of the EA jacket and the bottom buckle is worn under the jacket on the belt. The top buckle is a resin cast from an original screen used buckle. Just to let everyone know, the top buckle has a curve to it, it is not flat even though the picture makes it look as if it is. The bottom buckle is a brass buckle with a resin emblem on it. Both are weathered to look like the originals (I own both of the original buckles, so I know the reproductions are accurate).

I got the metal bits from the fella on ASAP a while back.
The top buckle seems undersized. It's kinda tiny on the Earthforce jacket I received from Artus. And the jacket is small.
They would certainly help in making larger pieces in metal, if anyone knows how to go about that.

I figure this is one thing that might interest any B5 costumer. I was recently watching the entire Crusade series, and noticed that the helmets at least along with the vest are basically just slightly different colored Starship Troopers armor. Unfortunately I do not have any pictures of it, but there should be some out there for confirmation

Casting metal is tricky and a real art. If you obtained the "meal bits" from Gbaldi on ASAP, then they are a close to the real thing as you are going to get.
