Dan had me do some work on creating a logo for StargateHero.net and after much delay I have a couple of designs to show. Nothing has been finalized yet and this post is to solicit opinions and/or suggestions only and is not an open call for submissions.

I'm rather partial to the second design (with the big Earth symbol) myself, I like how it brackets the chevron. What do you all think?

I'm digging the second one.

I'm actually liking the first one, but would like to see the Earth symbol in gold on that one as well. I really like how you could easily put this patch in the place of an Atlantis patch on the Atlantis jackets.

I like the second one but I would also like to see the first one with a gold Earth symbol.

I'm going to agree with Kronk, The earth glyph in the second is just too over powering. I also would like to see the first one with the gold glyph.

I have to say the first one, The 2nd one the size of the earth glyph is just to in your face, Kind of overpowers the rest of the image.

here is an idea why not color the earth glyph in the first one also just to see how it looks

That was actually the idea. It would work well with conventions or volunteer work at Creation or other conventions. We will a design with the SG-1 patch or the project patch as well.

I like the first one better. The Earth glyph is too huge in the second one.

Now if this is to be on the Atlantis patch location as well, should it not be based around that logo's dimentions?

I agree with tk on this one, and would like to see the first image with a gold color to it also...

I also dig the idea of the first one being made as a replacement to the Atlantis patch.

I'll change the Earth symbol in the first image to yellow/gold when I get home tonight. As for matching the Atlantis patches dimensions, I might be able to do that, I'd have to have the patch dimensions and modiffy the design accordingly.

I already have the Atlantis patch artwork done that you can see in teh avatars here, if you want me to give it a whirl?

Just send me the dimensions and I can do the mods myself. I do the artwork with Illustrator so making the changes is fairly easy and I can change the dimensions endlessly with no worries about pixelization or anything like that.

I would like to see the atlantis one

I like the first one (first revision). The first one (second revision) is nice also, but I don't like the way the points disspear at the base. It also looks like the light is coming from two different directions, one for the glyph and one for the chevron.

I played a little more with the logo in the Atlantis Patch dimentions, just had some time to goof around, not trying to step on your toes at all Phil

I like what you've done with the circle and the line, sort of like the official logo; I'm going to steal that idea and incorporate it into my revision(s).

I like that it realy gives it a flare
now I have to ask a couple of quetions:
#1: what program did you do that in and
#2: Is this going to be the logo for the whole SG

Getting into this a little late, but I also like the first design with a gold chevron. TO me the second design is way to overpowering. I can understand Dan's thought process on wanting it to stand out, but I think the second one is overdoing it a little. It would also be way cool if we can fit it into the size of the Atlantis patch.

I like all the designs so far. They all show attention to detail. My favorite is the last design by Primrodo. I agree with Phil that the "O" incorporated with the line really loks professional and helps make it stand out. Keep up the good work both of you.

I wonder how it would look if the 'light-up' section behind the glyph faded from red to blue. That way it would encompass both SG-1 and Atlantis.

It'll probably look like crap. Just a suggestion.

OR 50/50 it down the midddle, half red half blue... ?

I really like Primrodo's I just sticks out,it comes right off of page at me and that is what you it to do

Primrodo definitely has some good ideas that I plan on incorporating in my next set of revisions which I (should) have up by tomorrow. I've been a little busy lately and my computer, until recently, wasn't functioning properly but now I'm back up and running and I'll be able to work on the logo again.

Thank you all for you feedback, it's greatly appreciated, and thanks to Primrodo for making some really good suggestions to add to the design. If anyone happens to have the dimensions of the Altantis patch handy I'd love to have them so that I can make sure that the final design will be the exact same size so that it will fit on the velcro with no problems.

As promised, I've gone and made revisions to the logo design and have made several variations on it as well.

Some very cool designs there, Phil. I'm liking #6 and #7. Perhaps have #7 but coloured silver like #6. I think the black outline works best out of the two.

I really like #6 myself. I think it stands out as a logo. It jumps off the page. I think it makes for a strong patch too.. especially if the gold is metallic thread.

All very well done Phil. I am going to say that I particulary liked #6 though. That would be my choice for our patch.

Not a bad idea Dan. We could produce them in blue and orange/red and let the members choose what color they want to wear.

They all look good, but if you ask me, I'd go with No. 6 (Black / Grey) since it's got the basic color scheme of the other patches (they all are basically black and (silver)grey, sometimes with some color touches)

I vote for #6.

Revisions based on previous comments/suggestions have been made. There are two variants, nothing drastic just some color differences.

I did mine up in blue too, just for difference, but I wanted to discuss why mine has different things going on.



Firstly, aside from the dimentions, which needs to be taking into account for patch making, but some of the details I feel need to be considered for that as well.

I feel the type should be all the same case to have proper impact, and definatly something sans serif. I chose the same font used on the patches.

The line under that in the triangle shape I feel will not show up right, we are talking about the size I posted, and I think it will not carry the same weight when made the propersize compared to teh overly large size Phil made. Now this is something, even i do as a designer, showing things larger before smaller, but size needs to be considered.

I also kept the at symbol /\ solid vecause I so not think the 3D look or simulated 3D look like on the SGC patch will work on such a small scale and that solid is more powerful.

Having the back filled in is an interesting thought, I actually considered making something more accurate to the chevrons, but opted for somthing simlar along with the patches.

Having such dark colours should also be looked at, as the darker the grey on screen may create a visual impact, but will not on a patch, as evidenced in some of the darker SG-1 patches that were made.

Hey Phil, any chance of adding blue to the lines inside the Chevron?

They both look great, but the white and black looks a bit out of palce.

So would the colour to be honest, and probably why the atlantis patch does not. I tried myself, but it just looks odd.
