So what costume or prop related projects are in the works?
Currently, I'm working on two things: an OD flightsuit and finishing my OD Off-World Uniform.
-The Off-World Uniform is coming off quite nicely. In fact, I'm pretty much done once I get a WEP jacket. I have a poor man's Off-World uniform right now, which is basically adding the vest and contents to my Garrison uniform. I recently ordered a P90 and I'm getting a sling made up by Primrodo, which is exciting.
-The flightsuit is as good as done, I just need to cut the velcro into circles and actually sew them onto the shoulders of the flightsuit. As of right now, I'm opting not to get a nametag for the flightsuit, as there have been several non-military people weating their flightsuits without any nametags (Teal'c and Daniel in "Flesh and Blood" come to mind). And my hair is far from military specifications...

So what's everyone else working on?

I am currently working on the khaki/blue Atlantis scientist uniform and Vala's black and olive bdu's (working on the jacket pattern currently). I'm also supposed to be working on her leather outfit but that's further down on the list now.

I'm working on my OD Green Garrison Uniform and my OD Green M-65 Field Jacket. I have the clothing and materials on order and are arriving at the speed of the postal service.
BTW, there's no need to cut Velcro into circles. Go to www.nametags4u.com and they sell the hook and Velcro sides for circular patches.

Oh Hothgirl, i can't wait to see your vala's jacket, i was thinking about it that not long ago for a friend of mine who wants to build a female stargate costume. Hard to do?

I've bought the circles from them before, but I've never been satisfied with their lopsided circles. At least if I cut the circle wrong I can't be mad at anyone except myself.
I bought the velcro by the foot from Nametags4u. It's a dollar more and you'd be able to get enough velcro for at least 3 patches, so it's a more economic choice.

LOL I hear that Stitch. In fact the only reason I haven't gotten my circles onto my flightsuit yet is because I refuse to glue them. I'll get to a sewing machine one of these days, I swear.
In other news I got a great deal on a Blackhawk Medic Vest, so I'll have an accurate vest for my Off-World costume. Now to get the rest of an Atlantis costume to put my first vest to good use...

Dion and I haven't worked out everything as far as the system of approval, so you do still have a bit of time.
So far I've only gotten pictures from Blackkat and Kitha, so if you count myself that's only three members.

I believe you're looking for this thread
here.
In otehr news, my Medic vest is in, and I've gotten it modded (thanks to Primrodo) to have the clips on the shoulder as opposed to the D-rings. I also finally completed my flightsuit. Yay!

So now that the holidays are behind us, does anyone have any projects in the works?

Just like to introduce myself a little. The name's Marty, been a stargate fan for a long while now, but it's been backstage to Star Wars until recently, when I decided I needed to do some different costuming for a while. I know both StoyBoy and Primrodo through the local SW Fan Forces, and hopefully with their help I'll be able to whip up a decent costume soon - I've already been bugging Bryan for help this past week; it's time to go bug Justin too, lol.
How do I go about getting access to the private forum?

Welcome to SG-2, Marty!
The best way would be to get ahold of Tanya, aka ScifiSpirit, she's the Team Leader for SG-2. She can send you the password for the private forums.
I don't know if you're familiar with the Membership policies for the teams, but you're a member on a "probationary period" of up to 6 months, at which point you have to have a costume (any SG costume will suffice) and you are set.
Great to see you here!

I'm hoping to have my garrison costume ready in time for the NE FF awards/Pittsburgh Comic Con at the end of April, since I don't think my Rebel Pilot costume will be ready to go by then. It all depends on if I want to hunt around for deals to save $$, or just go for it and buy everything new and get it right away.
If I get a costume within that 6-month probationary time period, is that probation status turned into full membership, or do I have to wait the full 6 months regardless?

It's immediate. Once you have the costume finished, just send the Team Membership Officer (which in this case, is me

) a few full pics of it for approval. And then you're all set!

Nobody's really updated with costuming news in a while, so I guess I'll go.
Recently did a bit of spending on SG costuming. I picked up a Streamlight Scorpion flashlight for my P90, as well as some scope rings to mount it. I also bought buckles for my Atlantis vest, which I've attached, and picked up and velcro-d from flag patches for my upcoming Atlantis jacket (courtesy of Primrodo). So slowly but surely I'll have me an Atlantis costume.

I'm looking to get started on gathering up my costuming bits in time for SDCC in a little under two months. Wanted to check in here for everyone's opinions on where I should buy from/which parts to buy. This is what I've accumulated for now:
Magnum Response Boots (8"):
side zip or no zip? (all listed are no zip)
* Quartermaster - cheapest, but out of my size.
* Shoebuy.com - $54.95, free shipping
* Fogdog Sports - $54.99, free shipping
* Amazon.com - $54.95 + shipping
BDU shirt (OD):
* Quartermaster - LawPro® 2-Pocket Long Sleeve Super BDU Shirts
BDU Pants (OD):
* Quartermaster - LawPro® Super BDU 6-Pocket Trousers
* Vermont's Barre Army Navy - Vintage Vietnam Fatigue Pants
* Amazon.com - Vintage Vietnam Era 6 Pocket Fatigue Pants
Belts (OD):
* Quartermaster - BlackHawk® Universal BDU Belt
* Vermont's Barre Army Navy - Heavy-duty type "13" nylon webbing BDU Belts
I have already the black t-shirt, SG-2 and Earth patch, and coordinating velcro circles. Thanks for your help everyone!

Looks like you're in good shape to get a Garrison Uniform!
RE: Boots, I believe side-zip is more a personal choice than anything. Both are perfectly acceptable. I believe I read somewhere (and this may be gender stereotyping so take this with a grain of salt) that side zips are seen more often on female costumers than on males. Shouldn't be a big deal though.
For the shirt and pants, the only issue you may run into if you go for the Vietnam pants and the Quartermaster shirt is that since they are different brands the colors may not match up. With the LawPro pants you would have matching color and no worries in regards to dyeing, though on the other hand the Vietnam pants are the ones worn by SG-1. So it's up to you. If the colors are close and you don't mind them being off a bit then I say go for the Vietnam style.

When I was in the USAF ('81-'85), I broke down and got zippers for my combat boots after about a year being in service. They looked good and laced-in nicely

I DID refrain, however, from getting taps on my boots and shoes (everyone wanted to 'sound' like a TI)!

Got some AWESOME Ori Fabric from a fellow SG-2 Member last week. DEFINITELY doing a Prior Robe! About two years ago, Zippy and I took a stab at an Ori Book... I may give that another go again as well.
Now we just need to find someone who can create Functioning (ligt up) Ori Staffs!
