Wow those are cool
EKBATL
starting earnest work on my "original" Marvel Girl costume as well - she should be done by spring, and ready to debut live at TriNoc in the summer and DC in august.

this is the link to my reference photos

not a ton in there yet, but I'll be adding more photos as well as some of my costume as all the pieces get put together, and as a bonus, am amassing a lot of great resources for a later post (once I am satisfied with the quality of what I get)

Should be fun.

That would be a great one for you Erica! Here's a Marvel Girl we met recently at the Dallas ComiCon in October.

Is that a beast costume or a Beast (Hank McCoy) costume, and from which era? Beast didn't start out as a fuzzy blue guy you know, he looked much different back when the X-Men first came out.
CaptAres
Oh yea i know I have been an X-men fan for a long time
I am doing the Blue Fuzzy Beast I was thinking of doing the one from X3 but I may go for one out of the comic books just not sure which one yet

and Kronk - thanks! A comic-crazy friend of mine had suggested it and the more I thought about it, the more I knew it should be mine! pics forthcoming as the pieces come together! and I think that gal has my boots! smile.gif
EKBATL
SUPER EXCITED! Boots, gloves and belt buckle all here. Mask in progress, I'm trying something new for it. If it works, will show all. Dress should be done in the next week! photos coming soon, along with reference for where I have found the suppliers. Then hopefully will be able to present an accurate and completed Marvel Girl (comic book style) at whatever con is coming up next for me. Whoa yeah!

Erica

Excellent! We need more super hero costuming around here!
EKBATL
Ok - know this is not a super complicated costume to recreate, but I've been working hard to get it just right so I don't have to go back and redo it..... I've got too many more I just need to get on.

Marvel girl should be able to debut at fantascicon in March!

Anyway, here are a few shots of the dress, boots, gloves and buckle. the spandex doesn't photograph well, but I was lucky enough to find a source who sent me free swatches, then custom made the dress in the color and style I needed.

The boots are from Fantasiawear, a must know for patent leather. Super comfortable, and they have almost any color you could ask for.

The gloves did not photograph as well as I wanted - my fault, but I was so excited to put them on that I didn't finish pushing the fingers out all the way..... so sue me - I am impatient! But they are custom made vinylized spandex from a tailor in Hong Kong who was an absolute pleasure to work with.

I'm trying something a little different with the mask and belt. once they have either worked or failed, I'll post and report.

So here are a few pics:

The boots:

The dress and gloves: again, color and style doesn't photograph well, but trust me, it rocks - saving the world in super style

and the buckle, which I found from a cosplay seller on ebay. It's almost an exact match to the version I am doing.

Cause, I'm really a superhero at heart......

very nice!

I was wondering if the reference photos were to the costumes as they were in the comics, or to the movies, since they were very different

but it appears that people are doing costumes from both sources (that photo of Wolverine and the one of Marvel Girl illustrates the point - his is from the movie, hers is from the comic)

I recognize Emma Frost with Wolverine but who is the blue booted and blue gloved character with Marvel Girl?

I've thought about doing a Storm costume from the movie too, but I have such a yen for the nostalgic old fashioned style....... however, might see a Storm coming soon!!!!
foxspirit
Storm's costume in the comics was much more free-flowing, while obviously, her movie costume was all done in leather...

I guess it would depend on how comfortable you want to feel...

It's supposed to be Jubilee. In the comics it's a female character...

Looking like it's coming along great Erica! I can't wait to see the finished product.

Well, the OUTFIT looks like Jubilee (Jubilation Lee, a young Chinese (IIRC) girl who befriended Wolverine in the comics several years back - she throws fireworks from her fingertips). The person in it... blink.gif Reminds me a little of that guy in the Sailor Moon costume at FantaSci in VA Beach/Chesapeake a few years ago. >shudder< Scary, scary stuff. biggrin.gif
foxspirit
Ok, I think the gender bending threw me a bit....

I think Jubilee was SUPPOSED to look like this:

Danger Kronk
Um... yeah....

I really only took the picture for the Marvel Girl costume.
EKBATL
well, it's done - FINALLY!!!!! - I am super excited to be wearing this at Fantascicon next weekend. However, I think it looks a little better in real life - the spandex has a sheen to it that just sort of glows under the flashbulb, but you will absolutely get the idea! The mask I made with a little help from some local friends, and it's way cool - it's impregnated fiberglass bonded to an eyeglass frame from which I removed the lenses. It's practically indestructable - great for those crime-busting cat-fights (MEOW) Plus it makes it easy to put on and off, it stays secure, and it doesn't mess with my hair! After all, it's not easy to be a "Chick-Hero". Might still work on the eye holes with a small sanding bit, but overall, I'm happy with the result.

I am super pleased with all the sources I found for this. I'll be glad to pass along any sources to anyone interested. Except for the boots, everything was custom made, but very reasonably priced. Am going to attempt to upload a couple of pics, but if you want to see more detail, you can find my photobucket account at

So here are the newest pics (didn't redo the ones from above):
