Full Version: Which Flightsuits count?

I was curious, to be a member of the Titans, do you need an X-302-syle flightsuit?

My current flightsuit is the basic Olive Drab technician flightsuit, much like the kind worn by Walter or the Daedalus/Odyssey crews (with the Air Force Sapce Command patch on the chest).

Would this qualify for being in the Titans?

Actually we allow both types, mainly because both are used in the Stargate universe. That and it’s an excuse to have both types of flight suits

Sooo......that means that all the flight gear that I saw on the sg-command.com site isn't necessary?
All I need to have is the Nomex Flight Suit (or non-Nomex equivalent), the assorted patches, and the boots? I guess the USAF flight cap would be a nice touch, too.

I watched the episode "Ethon" to see what COL. Mitchell and Teal'C were wearing, and I saw that it was the flight suit, "speedjeans" (CSU-15/P Anti-G Garmet), Nomex Gloves, and flight helmet.
Would this be the costuming requirements to be in the Darkstar Titans Squadron?

The only costuming requirements to be in the Darkstar Titans Squadron are.

Navy Blue or Olive Drab flightsuit with the nessecary patches.

these patches are;
Placed at top of the right sleeve, 1/2 inch from the seam centered.

Placed above the right breast pocket.

Placed at the top of the left sleave, 1/2 inch from the seam centered.

Placed 1/2 inch from the squadron patch centered.

and a Name patch, above the left breast pocket.

Name patch Layout:
Wings: Silver (SGC: USAF Senior Space Ops, Prometheus: USAF Command Pilot, F-302: USAF Space Ops)
Border Color: Gold
Text Color: White
Back Color: Navy
Text Layout: Alt-2
Name Line: <First Name> <Last Name>
Info Line: <Rank> USAF

and a pair of boots.

Anything else is optional but not necessary. I myself do have a flight cap but rarely wear it. I hope all that info I posted isn't overwhelming.

This is just the information I needed. biggrin.gif I was overwhelmed by the information on the other site and got confused. I'll simply order the flightsuit and patches!

Darn, I have a black one I used for my T.I.E. Pilot. What is the Helmet type that's used?
Rook
I believe the flight helmet is the HGU-55/P.

shesh, those helmets are NOT cheap (and to honest have little "cool factor" in the way they look).

Anyone have one thats kinda beat up that they wouldn't mind me making molds from? I'd be happy to
pop off enough for the entire group
Rook
Well, they're expensive because they're a current issue item. Heck, even the older "Top Gun" style helmets are expensive. smile.gif

Then if you want the air mask... $$$

Looking at that helmet I'm not to sure it'd be what I'D want to be wearing if I was flying in Space Combat. Dosen't that seem kinda odd they would use regular flight suits?

This has probly all been discused before hasn't it? Sorry, forums newbie tongue.gif

The only thing that could possibly explain why they fly F-302s in space wearing only flight suits and not full pressure suits ala B5 is that either they figure that no one is very likely to survive a hit to a 302 in space so they won't ever need to eject and thus not need a pressure suit or they're designed like the F-111s and the whole cockpit section ejects serving as an escape pod. The only problem with the second scenario is that if they take a hit to the cockpit section or they get some sort of puncture there they're SOL unless they pull a Rick Hunter. biggrin.gif

Yes, I could see that. Matter of fact I have seen that because for the last few hours I've been watching all the 302 fighter footage I could find and, sadly, didn't see even one pilot eject.

Still can't find a "reasonably" priced helmet so I'm going to try and make one. I have this crazy idea on how to do the inside liner so it fits perfect too. Going to spray plumbers foam in the PVC helmet I'll vacuum form, then put it on. I'll wear a trash bag over my head so it's not on me for the rest of my life though tongue.gif

They do sell liners for flight helmets, as I was told by Textor during D*Con the helmets are basically just shells with components that get added on to make the complete helmet. In fact, if you manage to vacform the shell you could go online to buy all of the other parts that make up a flight helmet like the visor and the O2 mask bayonets. Another alternative for the liner would be to buy the foam/gel liners that are used on the current issue Army helmets, the ACH; those would probably provide with a better and more comfortable fit than plumbers foam. You can find the these inserts on eBay and some military gear sites and they're not all that expensive either, they come in different sizes and there are several pads to a set so you can place them where you want and get the fit that you want too.

Getting my hands on a helmet, yippy. Found one from a friend whos returning from over seas, he's sending it to me next week (crossing fingers). Says I'll have to fix a crack in it though, but should make an excellent original to copy from.
Stitch
The HGU-55/P is not always expensive. The flight gear collectors run the prices up on ebay. If you can get your hands on old one from DRMO or "buddy" in the AF they throw them away everyday!

So did you ever get one?

I had Joe sign mine! =)
